Skin Care Tip Of The Week *DIY herbal steam facial*

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Making your own herbal steam facial can be a wonderful way to not only benefit your skin but a great therapeutic and easy way to have a little spa treatment in your own home.

Herbal steam benefits :
  • Loosens debris and helps soften your skin
  • Gives you a deeper cleanse
  • Rejuvenating
  • Relaxing and therapeutic

What you will need:
  • A few different herbs depending on your skin type. You can purchase these at your local bulk health food store for cheap.
-Normal skin: lavender, lemon balm, elderflower, licorice root, nettle

-Dry/Sensitive/ Mature: camomile, basil, rose, lavender, cornflower

-Oily/Acne: comfrey, lemongrass, marshmallow root, peppermint, eucalyptus, licorice root

How to make you own herbal steam facial:

  1. Cleanse your face first.
  2. Decide what herbs you would like to use. I love the combination of licorice root and marshmallow root since I have oily skin.
  3. Boil a pot of water.
  4. Add herbs (3 tablespoons) to your bathroom sink.
  5. Transfer hot water to your sink. Make sure you plug it up beforehand.
  6. Cover your head with a towel and place your face about 6 inches abut the steam.
  7. Steam you skin for about 7 minutes.
When you are finished your skin will have a dewy refreshed appearance! You might just become addicted I am forewarning you.

Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day!

To be honest I had no idea it was even Labor Day weekend until Ian mentioned it to me on Friday. What I do know is...summer is almost over and I am pretty excited about it! I cant wait for all things fall!

Want to hear our super awesome Labor Day plans? We have none. I think I might start figuring out what I want our themed family Halloween costume to be this year. Its a pretty big deal around here.

Hope all of you hard worker bees are sleeping in, eating waffles and enjoying your day off.

Things That Make Me Say Yeay

Friday, September 2, 2011

My new fall-ish nail polish from Essie.

Squeezing in one last summer beach trip.

Finley of Mommy Chic made this scarf and gifted it to me! I may just wear it with everything during fall. LOVE it. Thank you Finley!

I give total credit to the hubbys and boyfriends who take pictures of their ladies for their outfit posts. Ian was less than stoked to work all day and come home to take a billion pictures of me in my scarf.....I was like, "Hurrrryyyy the sun is going down!!" Total panic mode to say the least. A good dinner bribe helped :)

Organic Raw Kombucha. Have you tried this? It is AMAZING. It has all kinds of good for you ingredients inside!

Our tomatoes are being rude and taking over the entire garden...and I am completely fine with that. Bring on the tomato recipes. If you have one I would love to hear!

The winner of the braided clay bracelet set is
Gentri! Congrats! Please e-mail me :)

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

On a side note: Have you seen this adorable video yet? Click HERE. I watched it about 10 times.

One more side note: Hey its my blog so I can have more than one. I can NEVER spell the word definitely. It will always have a red squiggly line underneath until spell check corrects me. So if you ever get a reply with the word def..I am not trying to be cool by abbreviating things I just don't feel like trying to spell it. Okay just had to get that off my chest.

Words to Desribe YOU

Thursday, September 1, 2011

This week has been CRAZY and since returning from our vacation I have been moving like a snail traveling through peanut butter. So today I have a little catching up to do.

Since I don't have a "real" post today I had to share this. I found it here and thought it was too much fun not to share.

The first three words you spot are supposed to describe you.

My words were sex, door and peep. Hmmm!! I tried doing a do-over but I kept spotting those words.

What three words do you see first? I want to know so I don't feel so weird ;)

1-2-3-4

As a licensed esthetician I always find it hard to find my favorite skin care and makeup lines all in one place. However, Apothica has solved this problem. They carry amazing brands like Boscia, Colorscience, Eminence (I LOVE their masks. ) and many more! I spent a good hour browsing their site (aka filling my cart up) the first time I discovered it and all I can say is you will not be disappointed.

Chia Seed Coconut Pudding

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

When I told my husband yesterday that I was going to make a really yummy raw chia seed pudding he said, "Sounds gross...can't you make regular pudding?" Nope I had my mind set. Raw (non regular) Chia seed pudding it was! It was DE-LICIOUS

Did you know that chia seeds have more antioxidants than blueberries? The lady at the health food store told me this...I googled it and she was right! Pretty impressive. They are also known to increase energy and help ward off hunger. Love that.

What you will need:
  • 3/4 cup of raw chia seeds
  • 2 cups of almond milk. If you want to make your pudding sweeter you can use vanilla almond milk.
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened finely shredded organic coconut. If you want to make it sweeter use sweetened coconut.
Pour the chia seeds in a mixing bowl and add all of the ingredients.

Mix everything together. You will begin to notice the chia seeds taking on a more jelly like texture. Wait five minutes or so and mix again until you have a pudding like consistency.

That is it! Your done. Simplest recipe ever.

You can either enjoy it room temperature ( I prefer it this way) or let it chill in the fridge.

This is by far the easiest and healthiest little treat that I have ever made. It was light, not too sweet and the prefect after dinner treat!

So what did the husband think?...When he hesitantly took his first bite he looked at me and said, "Hmmmm NOT bad." He ended up eating a whole little bowl of it and even had a suggestion for next time (yeay a next time). He suggested I add pureed strawberries or blueberries. Great idea as a matter of fact.

Skin Care Tip Of The Week *Probiotics for better health and better skin*

Monday, August 29, 2011

I have mentioned before that your skin will communicate with you if things are not working as good as they should be on the inside.

Probiotics
can help restore your internal health. When you are healthier on the inside this will naturally improve your skin.

What are probiotics?

According to the World Health Organization, probiotics are living bacteria that, in the proper amount, offer a considerable health benefit to its host (YOU). There are billions of “friendly” bacteria in your gut that are beneficial to your health and they are similar to the bacteria in probiotics.

If you consume a large amount of meat, dairy, artificial sweeteners or have taken a large amount of antibiotics...you are most likely getting "backed up." Not a fun feeling!

When you are properly digesting your food and your immune system is functioning at an optimal level your skin will look younger healthier and more vibrant!

Probiotic benefits
  • Promotes better digestion
  • Improves liver functions
  • Can help ward off colds and the flu
  • Can help treat and prevent yeast infections
  • Increase energy
You can purchase probiotics at almost any health food store. You will find them in the refrigerated isle. You can also purchase them here. The one that is shown above is my favorite brand!
