5 Unique Health and Beauty Benefits of Green Clay

Tuesday, May 6, 2014

Green clay (also known as natural bentonite clay) is the best!  It is wonderful when used as part of your beauty regime, I swear by it. But did you know it also has quite a few other uses that are just as awesome?  Today i am going to share some of the wonderful other uses that you may or may not know about.

5 Health and Beauty Uses of Green Clay:

1. Enjoy a detoxifying green clay bath.  Clay baths pull toxins out through your pores and soften your skin. Add a few large scoops into your bath and sit back and relax.

2. Help reduce and clear existing acne breakouts with a skin clearing mask.  Read all about that here.

3. Use it on bug bites.  Mix a small about of clay with water until you have a paste.  Apply it directly onto the bite to help reduce swelling and to draw out infection.

4. Use it for eczema and psoriasis.  Mix a paste like above and apply directly to irritated areas.  The clay helps with itching and calms down the skin.

5. Use it as a foot mask for dry callused feet.  Add 1/2 cup of clay mixed with warm water into a container that will fit both of your feet.  Let your feet soak for up to 30 minutes. Repeat this a few times a week until the skin starts to rub off naturally.

You can find green clay at your local health food store in bulk and online here.

And there you go! If you have any other uses for green clay I would love to hear in the comment section.

I love bentonite clay! I've used it for bug bites, cuts/scrapes, and poison ivy. But for me its main use is to relieve IBS symptoms. Yes, you DRINK the clay. Mix one or two tsp's with water (make sure you don't use a metal spoon because it will deactivate the clay's toxin-drawing properties). Drink plenty of water afterward so it moves through your system, and best if directly followed by a fiber drink like psyllium husk. You can also buy the clay in capsule form (from Redmonds Clay - I buy mine through Amazon) which goes down a lot easier than a glassful of mud. :)

Thanks, as always, for your great advice. Given your expertise, I'm wondering if you might be willing to do a post about health/beauty care during pregnancy. I have always struggled with acne, and during pregnancy, I'm nervous about putting most things on my skin. Any guidance you could provide would be very much appreciated!

Thanks for your wonderful ideas! I've been using this face mask for a couple of months, but I still have all-over clogged pores, even under my jaw and down my neck. Any advice on these? This is really gross, but I think it's important to mention-when extracted, hard, waxy plugs pop out. What the heck? I've seen lots of dermatologists and several estheticians, and tried all of there products to help and none have. Would you please offer some suggestions for this type of problem? On top of that, I have severely dry/flaky skin from when they are extracted, ugh!

Hi Lindsay! Just wanted to let you know that I love your blog (your snickerdoodle muffins are my absolute FAVORITE!). I actually just started making my own tooth "powder" from this recipe: http://wellnessmama.com/5252/remineralizing-tooth-powder-recipe/. Getting used to the texture is a little weird (it does kinda feel like you're washing your mouth out with dirt), but both my husband and I have noticed that our teeth feel cleaner/whiter. I've seen some other recipes where you can mix the powder with either water (then keep in an airtight container) or coconut oil to make more of a paste, but I haven't tried it yet. If you've ever tried Earthpaste (made with Redmond clay), it's a pretty similar concept--we just figured we might was well have fun and try making our own :)

Here's my every day custom. I could blend my beverage with a smoothie, however I like my smoothies more fruity, so I want to blend 2+ tablespoons of Green supplements into in about a quart of water. I simply drink it each day 60 minutes after work.
