How to make your own lip plumping lip gloss

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Most women (at least the ones I know) like the idea of having nice full natural looking lips. Since store bought lip plumpers are usually pretty pricey, this homemade version not only works just like a lip plumper should but it is super inexpensive to make yourself!

The secret ingredient that most of the expensive lip plumpers have in them is cinnamon oil. Cinnamon oil works by stimulating blood flow, which makes it the perfect (natural) lip-plumping agent. The more you add the more your lips will tingle and plump.

What you will need:
  • Clear unscented lip gloss
  • %100 pure cinnamon essential oil

Pour 7-8 drops of cinnamon oil into the bottle of clear lip gloss. Trust me, this stuff is powerful so you do not want to over do it. I am a total dummy and put the cinnamon oil on my lips without diluting it with the lip gloss because I was so impressed with how it plumped...ya do not do that.

Put the cap back on and make sure you evenly mix up the oil. Apply to your lips...and watch the plumping magic happen!

Good to have the warning about not putting the oil on straight, lol.

Wow, who knew that the secret was cinnamon oil! That's good to know! Thanks for the tip! do you think it would work the same if you used a colored lip glass? Or is it best to use the clear.

Where do you find the clear uncented lip gloss?

peppermint also helps plumping! Using both together is like Christmas on your lips :D

Kathleen- colored lip gloss would work too. Just make sure it is unscented.

Cherie- you can find clear lip gloss at Target, Walmart, drug store or beauty store etc..

Bliss- Christmas on my lips sounds amazing! I will have to try out that combo :)

Oooh very nice. Sure beats the "lip venom" I occasionally use.

Buwahahaha - we got a little stinging sensation, did we? Remember those cinnamon toothpicks? We always had them in high school and they practically blistered your lips if you chewed too many. So I can only imagine what straight oil would feel like. Dingbat.
Thanks for the tip - I'll have to grab a bottle next time I'm out. You know, next month. If I'm lucky enough to escape.

Lindsay.. Can you please tell me which brand of lipgloss you chose to try? I'm having a hard time finding unscented (and unsticky for that matter) clear gloss, and I don't recognize the gold tube - help!! Before I end up spending more $ than a plumper on bad gloss :) - p.s. your new addition is adorable!! Thanks for finding time to blog during this special family time. xoxo

Such an awesome idea, thanks! I tried it, but I used jojoba oil instead of clear lip gloss, and also added a couple of drops of chilli seed pure essential oil and WOW - instant Jolie lips!!!
