The key ingredient to making this crust low carb is flax seed meal.
What you will need:
- 1 1/2 cup of flax seed meal
- 2 tsp of baking powder
- 1 tsp of oregano
- 1 tsp of salt
- 1/2 tsp of Stevia or natural sweetener
- 3 eggs
- 3 tbs of olive oil
- 1/2 cup of water
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Mix dry ingredients together.
- Add wet ingredients and mix well.
- Let the dough sit for about 5 minutes to thicken up.
- Spread dough on a large round pan. If you don't have this you can line a cookie sheet with greased parchment paper (this is what I did).
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through. Check it at the 15 minute mark and take out if it looks done.
- Add toppings and place back into the oven to melt the cheese.
For the toppings I used organic pizza sauce, Parmesan and mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, garlic and basil. After you add toppings place pizza back into oven to melt the cheese.
I am officially in heaven. The whole pizza was devoured by my family before any one could blink.
For you carb counters out there, this entire pizza has only 7 grams of carbohydrate! One slice of regular pizza has 25-30 grams. That is insane to me. I see no point in ever making pizza the old way again.

This is fantastic! Can't wait to try it.
Oh yum. It looks great, I'll have to see if we have some of that flax seed meal (or maybe I can make some from flax seeds)...
Awesome! I am a carb lover for sure, so it wouldn't hurt for me to cut back in areas where I can - this looks like a great option :)
Again, you amaze me with your ability to find these amazing recipes! I have flax seed meal in the fridge so might have to try this for our next pizza night!
that looks delicious...i must try it!
This looks great! Would ground flax seeds work...or does it need to be Flax Seed Meal specifically?!?!
I recently saw a pizza crust made out of cauliflower. That was super low carb as well. Sorry I can't remember the link to it, but I'm sure you can google it.
Love your blog!
Ok...here are the links where I first read about it:

Absolutely awesome! I wonder if you could make a few and freeze the crust?

Unbelievable! I will definitely be trying this.
Oh my goodness! That looks absolutely DELISH!! I'm definitely going to have to try that recipe! Thanks for sharing!
Wow what a discovery! I like using polenta (corn grits, which sounds nasty, but it's not) as a crust too. :)
Your pizza looks delicious, I am going to have to try that crust recipe!
Oh my, this is awesome! You are seriously the healthiest gal I know!

Just pinned this recipe, trying it for sure! Looks so delicious!
Flax seed pizza crust?!?! Ohmigosh I can't WAIT to try it!! I love pizza but always limit myself because of the carb overload.
I love homemade dough!
It looks really yummy! Saving this recipe now!!
this looks amazing!!!
I love a good and grainy pizza crust so this one looks right up my alley. Flax seed is so good for you so your really packing a lot of nutrition into this pizza. Makes me feel better about eating pizza if I made it this way.
This looks so amazing! I love any kind of pizza, and a low-carb option is perfect.
You made my favorite food low carb?! Love! Have a great weekend!
This is so cool! What a great recipe! Thanks a lot for sharing!
I also loved your scrub post, I was looking for it :o)
Yay!!! I love this! Carbs are exactly what I try to avoid!!!! Great rexipe
Wow, this looks delicious and you can't beat healthy!!
7 grams of carb for the *whole* pizza?! You, my lady, are a goddess for sharing this!
Oh my gosh, this looks so delicious! Great recipe!!

This looks delicious!
Mmmm. Does flax seed meal contain gluten?
Made this tonight - loved it! Got rave reviews too! topped it with caramelized onions, roasted butternut squash, and a tiny bit of bleu cheese and goat cheese - so stoked for leftovers tomorrow :)
Thanks for the tip! Great way to use up that Costco-sized bag of flax that's been hanging out in my pantry getting used one measly tablespoon at a time :)
Thanks for the recipe! I'm interested to try this.
I'm curious to know what kind of flax seed you're using. Most still have a higher carb count than this. The brand I'm using is 6g per 2-1/2T, which comes out to over 100g for the entire crust. Now flax is high in fiber - are you canceling out each carb with a fiber?
ericlukazaeski- I use %100 whole ground flax feed meal. 2 tbs has 4 grams of carb and 4 grams of dietary fiber. Since I am a type 1 diabetic, carb counting is a very important part of my diet-- I cancel out each gram of carb with each gram of dietary fiber. The entire pizza (if the recipe is followed) has only 7 effective grams of carbohydrate. Hope that helps!
is flax seed meal the same as ground flax seed? Sorry if that is a stupid question...
I hate to post this, but I tried this recipe tonight with such high hopes and it was (for lack of a better word) disgusting! I used %100 whole ground flax feed meal and followed the recipe to a T--somehow my crust dough was WAY darker than your picture and not anything like normal dough--very oozy/sticky and not like play-doh. Once baked it was okay, but still had an awful taste. Not sure what I did wrong but I hope someone can tell me!
Love your blog though!! Such great recipes from a fellow type-1 diabetic!
Your site is so great! I've recently found out that my hormones are all out of whack, and though I'm not diabetic my body doesn't process carbs and sugars the way it should. So I've virtually cut out all of them (including fruit!) Your site will be a great resource to keep my body in check and not get bored! Thanks!

Omg I'm eating this now!!! It's so phenomenal! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
I'm with Sara on this one. I was not a fan of this recipe. My husband and I are carb counters and I must say I was a bit disappointed and we are pretty much health nuts so sacrificing taste is not new to us. I still love your blog!! your cauliflower is awesome and I hope you and baby Ronin are doing well.
Thank you for sharing this recipe - just made it on Friday night and it will be our new go-to crust - SO GOOD! I did it on greased parchment, on top of a cookie sheet, for 8 minutes, then pulled the cookie sheet out and just left the parchment on right on the oven rack to help brown the bottom - 15m total and it was done! Only modification I would make next time was that it was far too salty - we did mozzarella and pepperoni for toppings, and it was like eating a salt lick. Next time I'm going to only do 1/4tsp of the salt and I think it'll be just right!
This is great since we all know that Italian cuisine can pack lots of carbohydrates.
bold organics pizza
Considering that it was only me eating this pizza today, the portion from this recipe is HUGE. I've saved it for lunch tomorrow. Will see if it's any good the next day!
I added some fresh chopped basil and mint to the crust. The crust needs some more spices I would say, for me it's too salty... I'd prefer it more sweet. Other than that it is really delicious!
What brand of ground flax seed meal did you use? I used Bob's Red Mill. As a few others noted, it was much darker than yours and a bit difficult to smooth out on the parchment paper.
That being said, it was still quite good considering it was low carb.
I've tried this, and it looks like pizza crust, and has the texture, but the flax seed meal gave it a weird texture in my mouth. I use golden flax seed meal, not sure if that has anything to do with it. I wonder how this would be with almond meal instead of flax?
I also agree with Sara,I had very high hopes, but my crust was much darker and I did not like the taste at all.
God Bless You! I cannot wait to try this :-)
Terry
This is great. Just made but colour was quite different. Perhaps there is a yellow flax seed? Not sure! It also stuck to the parchment paper a bit even though I greased it . Any suggestions?
Probably the best flax crust pizza I've tried. I should have let it bake a little longer but the kids didn't notice and loved it! Great job!

I made a pizza and cheese bread. To a low carb person like me, it was good. A bread lover like my wife did not like it. The kids did try it. I think some soy flour would help.
I made this, had to substitute a couple of ingredients as it was an impulse cook and I didn't have everything. Turned out really well.

I really like how this pizza turned out. On my first one, I did a round crust like shown in the pictures and it was too thick, so I ended up eating the toppings off of the crust because the flax was a little overbearing. In my second attempt, I made the crust more thin, and my husband even loved it! That is a vote hard to earn. Thanks for the recipe!
My husband and I made this and both liked it! He's a pizza fanatic so he's hard to please. We both agreed that the next time we would make the crust thinner and cook it longer. We also want to try it with golden flax meal. Thanks for sharing. We will definitely use this again
I made this last night, a whole cookie sheet of it. Topped it, ate two pieces and was in pizza heaven! This is the absolutely best pizza crust EVER! I'm gluten intolerant, so have suffered through some pretty horrible, overly-processed GF products, including pizza crusts that are downright revolting. This was so fantastic, even my carb loving, eat-everything-like-a-goat husband wants me to make this all the time now! I'm currently thinking of all the ways I can adapt this for things like bread and cookies ... thank you so, so much!
for those asking I just read that flax meal is just flax seed ground up, so if you use flax seed you have to grind it up before measuring.
I made this today and it turned out great! I added a bit of garlic powder to the crust and spread it out thin on a larger rectangular pan. Great healthy alternative for pizza, thank you!
I have a question i want to try this but I dont like using the 3 whole eggs because of the yolk, can i replace /sub the yolk with soemthing else?
I made this tonight and my husband devoured nearly the entire pizza -- needless to say, it was delicious! The texture was perfect and I think it would work with a wide variety of toppings. I'll be making it again, maybe with just a tad less salt in the crust.
Oh my, I loved this! I was worried the flax flavour would be too overpowering, but it tasted beautiful even without the topping! Thank you for sharing this :)
Best homemade pizza I had ever. I made mine with salmon, bacon and zucchini toppings, and 70% of it is done!
I made this for lunch today. The flavor of the flax was very overwhelming for me. I think I should have made the crust much thinner.
I also would add more seasoning to the crust - perhaps some garlic powder. Anyone have any suggestions to tame the flavor?
I made this tonight and it was great. I immediately blogged about it (giving you full credit, of course.)
Thanks for the great recipe!
Made this tonight!! Was pretty good considering the alternative was NO pizza! The one thing I would do different is definitely spread it thinner on the cookie sheet so that it will be crispier. It also tends to crumble in your mouth, so maybe a way to "tighten" it up? lol I did add 1/2 tsp of garlic powder with the oregeno....and yes, I think she used the golden flax seed meal, thats what I have and it came out the same way! I will be making this again!
I made this last night and it was SO good!!! Thanks for sharing this awesome recipe!
Wow! This was really good. I added some almond meal to it, and the crust was nice and soft. I definitely will make this again!
FINALLY a grain-free crust that isn't made from almond flour! WOOHOO!
I am really excited to try this-- since going paleo, the only thing I really miss is pizza so hopefully making this with some sauce and lots of toppings (sans cheese still) will fill my craving!
I use golden flax meal so I hope that works
-Stephanie
I found mine quiet salty too, it was far nicer than I was expecting though, I would make the crust thinner next time too so it might be crispier. I loaded mine with mushrooms, red pepper, mozzarella and pancetta :)
Thank you SOOO much for this great recipe!! I loved it!! After going without pizza for almost 3 months, this tasted amazing!!!
okay...this is good. I like it better than a cauliflower crust which has a heavy after taste. This crust is light and spongy not chewy like a flour dough crust. You really have to rely upon the toppings for flavor. I did not feel like falling asleep after eating several pieces so it is not raising my glycemic level. I used Classico tomato and basil for the sauce and added mozzarella and pepperoni. Low carbs is wonderful and flax will help to eliminate it quickly....will use it again, just wish it had the chewy consistency of real pizza.
I tried it tonight and loved it! I made Philly Cheese Steak pizza and used your recipe for my crust. It was delish. I only had the darker flax meal so next time I will try it with the golden flax meal. I have been doing the Atkins WOE since February 2015 and have tried 3 or 4 different recipes for pizza crust and this one is my favorite so far. I am going to try tweaking the recipe to make pancakes, cookies, and muffins. Thanks for sharing your recipe. :)
I made this the other day and it was fantastic!! So excited to have my pizza. Making again today for lunch but going to add some garlic powder to the crust.
For those who said the taste was bad, are you aware that flax seed meal goes rancid easily? It must be kept refrigerated or frozen to keep this from happening. Rancid = terrible taste.
Looked good in the picture so tried it...wish I hadn't. Absolutely sickly. Does not taste good at all. Struggled to eat it and annoyed about the waste of good ingredients on a rubbish recipe!
Gigi- Holy smokes! Thanks for the awesome feedback ;)
