syrian hummus

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

If I was on the show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire," and was asked the question "Where does hummus originate from?"...I would without a doubt shout GREECE!! Regis Philbin would give me that face where he hangs his head low and looks at me with great disappointment. WRONG ANSWER. Sad face..and Ian would be mad I just lost out on a million dollars.

According to my international cookbook, hummus originates from Syria. I even Googled it...so it must be true ;)

Ian and I go through a container of hummus about every 3 days. Is this normal? Can you overdose on hummus? Hmmm..

What you need:
  • 2 cups of chick-peas
  • 2/3 cups of tahini (sesame paste)
  • 3/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • Parsley leaves
  • 1 roasted red bell pepper. This is not part of the original recipe but I added it to give it a little "kick."
Directions:

1)Place the chick-peas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, salt and roasted red bell pepper in the blender. I love recipes where all you have to do in throw it in the blender!'

2)Place in a small bowl and garnish with parley leaves.

DONE!! Super duper easy!

This is one food my kids will literally eat right out of the container. With their fingers. I really need to start making my own. Love that you added roasted red pepper.

Hummus is one of my favorites! I never would've guessed it's from Syria, though - looks like we both would've missed out on the million! I'll have to try this recipe - it sounds so good!

I love Who Wants To B A Millionaire! And I also love hummus! My brother has pita and hummus at least once a day, so I know what you mean about running out every 3 days! This hummus looks so pretty with that pinkish color and I love that you just throw it in the blender and are done! I've seen lots of hummus recipes and have never tried them because the recipe goes on for pages - it's overwhelming! But this looks very feasible and delicious. Thanks for the great post!!! :)

PS thank you soooo, so much for putting me on your "Blogs I Read and Love" list - I just noticed that and it made me so happy I can't even tell you!!
