5 Things Little Boys Do That Might Drive You Insane...

Wednesday, July 2, 2014

Boys are crazyyyyyy.  Well, my boys are crazy at least and sometimes I wonder if they wake up and plot in their rooms before they come out on how they are going to try and make me go mentally insane that day.  I am not kidding.  And whoever thinks girls are crazier than boys well...you have not met my boys.  I am aware that for the most part on my blog I do not talk about all the chaos and "un-sweet" things that my boys do but I am here today to let ya know... ;)

1) They pee everywhere.  The other day I actually said (yelled) "Stop peeing in the trashcan!"  I mean... lets just please pee in (not around or on the sides) of the toilet.  I have to clean it daily and it's gross!

2) Do not buy anything nice in your house unless you don't mind the whole, "weathered rustic" look.  Boys destroy everything.  And if I would have known this earlier I would not have decided on certain items in my house, like my pretty mid-century modern couches with a tight tweed fabric that they are slowly destroying thanks to their trucks running all over them and I don't even know what else.  Same goes for my awesome coffee table that is now completely banged up due to them thinking that their play construction tools are real tools so they continually hammer the crap out of it like their daddy does when he is building...but I tell myself it gives it character haha.  And just a forewarning "play tools" can do quite a bit of damage so don't think they are playing all sweet with their little plastic hammers in their room.

3) Get ready to do things with your voice that you may have never done before.  I so wish I was not a yeller but to be completely honest boys (maybe it's only my boys?) do not respond AT ALL if I ask them to do something repeatedly in a sweet nice tone.   I have tried it and they will completely flat out ignore me like I am speaking Chinese.  So I have developed this deep deep low voice that comes out when they need to do things and they are not listening.  They know that voice means serious business or else the yelling will start.

4) Do not fall into the trap of buying super expensive boy clothes (I've been there).  Listen ladies, there is no point unless you plan on bringing your boys to a bubble wrapped room where their hands are tied behind their back and there is nothing that they can touch and rub on their shirts.  Because on any other regular day they will wipe their food, dirt, boogers, bugs and all sorts of unmentionable things on that $30 shirt that you will regret buying after they had only worn it for a day.

5) Get ready to spend A LOT of money on food.  The amount of food boys consume is just ridiculous.  Sometimes I wonder how their tiny little bodies are able to consume so much in one day!  I actually asked my husband a while back (he has 3 brothers) if how much our boys ate was "normal" and he assured me that it was beyond normal.  If I got a dollar (or how about a sip of wine...ohh that sounds better) every time I heard the phrase, "But I am still hungry" or "Can I have a snack?" (even though they just had a meal) I would be one rich or buzzed mom however you want to look at it.  And to the cute checker gal at Trader Joe's who looks too un-frazzled  to have kids...yes I am here agaainnnnnn but thanks for always pointing it out :)

Okay so those are just a few and that is all that I have time for because I have to make dinner since my boys are jumping all over me and off the couch asking when dinner is going to be.

Ha! Yes, you are spot-on all the way around! But boys loves their mamas like no ones business which seems to make up for the rest of it:) Have a wonderful 4th Lindsay!

FYI... That pee problem doesn't go away! My boys are 12 and 17 and I STILL have to clean around the toilet every day!

HAHA! So true about the food. I have two brothers and some of our worst fights as kids were over food and who ate the last (insert snack here). My boyfriend says I'm food aggressive now and I blame them! Boys eat A TON and drink A TON. Just wait until they're teenagers!! Lol.

My boys are 15 and 17 now. All of this sounds very familiar so don't worry, you're not alone. They are distance runners so the food thing has really escalated, completely worth it though, I'd rather have them running. I taught them from super young how to clean their toilet because I was so sick of it. It helped keep the stream focused better when they were in charge of clean up. That's not to say I don't have to yell out reminders that things are getting gross in there. Boys are good to their mommas.

My little guy is only 3, but I am already dealing with some of this stuff. What can you do but laugh?? LOL.

I have two boys and yes I totally relate to everything! Especially the eating, the never ending eating...I might have to work in a grocery store when they are teens.

I co-worker with 4 boys and 2 girls told me this--

when they are little she would have loved 6 girls b/c the boys were so hard

BUT when they were teenagers she wished she had all boys b/c they were soooo much easier.

She just had to make sure there was always tons of food in the house & money to buy new pants every month (since they grew AGAIN) and that was it! No drama from them, unlike her daughters :-)

Yep! Sounds about right! My boys are 9 & 11.. They still destroy (my) stuff and pee around the toilet and want to eat constantly.. How do they stay so thin?! :) They are loud, wild and Oh so messy! and don't forget the fighting..all..the..time! Boys will be boys I guess.

My boys and your boys could be best friends. I have not only had to yell to stop peeing into the garbage can but then had to explain why not. Lol thanks for the laugh I'm glad I'm nit alone.

I have one (almost) 4 yr old boy and a very sassy (almost) 2 yr old girl... This is very true for my boy... especially the food thing lately. And some of this applies to my girl too.

As a boy mom of 2, I completely agree with all of these-especially the toys on the couch. We have leather couches and on constantly on our five year old to drive his cars and stomp his action figures on the floor. I wouldn't change a thing though:) Your boys are adorable!

Thank you for this post as I thought it was just my boy for...all of the above!! Compared to his sister, he's crazy!! :)

It was kind of funny reading this (as I don't have any kids myself, yet). But I do understand the frustrations and how brave it is to post these things. Thanks for sharing!

Oh yay something to look forward to! Totally agree about the furniture! We got a nice kitchen table but purposefully went to ikea for almost everything else so I'm not heartbroken when it gets scratched and dinged!

Mine are 21 and 19 and I've almost forgotten about the crazy little boy years. Just wait until they flush their first pair of underwear down the toilet. And when the grout starts to disintegrate in the shower, you'll know they've been peeing in there. But as others have said, boys do love their mama unconditionally and they are blessedly drama-free. Try to step back once in awhile and enjoy them from the perspective of your older self. Before you know it, they'll be off to college and you'll be looking at that banged up furniture with new appreciation for the memories they managed to embed there.

I love this post and comments, I've experienced all the above and more! They drive you crazy, then they'll do something with such creative rationale you just have to laugh. Boys are awesome.

I am saving this list for future reference. I have a six month old daughter and every one of my friends always mention how different she is from their boys when they were at this age. She's very calm and quiet (most of the time), while their boys are rambunctious and very active. I never truly knew how the differences ring true until I read your list. So, in the future, if we ever have a boy, I'm going to keep all your thoughts in mind.

Thanks

I couldn't agree more, especially with #4!

Oh no, My little booger is only 2 and I already agree with everything on your list! I've got 1 of each though, so at least I'll be able to compare the drama that comes with boys vs girls.

My grandson is three, this is my first experience with a little boy (mom to two daughters). All I can say is ... Oy vey. Where do they get the energy??? The worst part for me is trying not to laugh when I'm disciplining him. He's a turd but he cracks me up.
