To the people who want you to change...

Monday, September 30, 2013

The land of blogging has two sides.  One of them is filled with amazing people who are kind and uplifting.  Those people have made blogging so much fun.  The other side is filled with people who are cruel and like to hide behind an e-mail, another website or nasty comments.  As a blogger I see both of these sides on an almost daily basis.

I wanted to address something that recently occurred.  I received a not so uplifting e-mail from another blogger (even more shocking) who wanted to tell me how she really felt, which was "Your blog commentaries are dull, vapid, silly and offend my sensibilities."  The e-mail went on to say (with a lot of blah blah in between) that if I was to improve my writing and "promised" to never use words like "suck" again then maybe she would consider reading my blog.

Hmmm.  This got me thinking and you know what?  Screw em. Not everyone is going to like what I have to say and how I write or even how I look or cut my hair but that's okay.

This blog is meant to be a voice of "me."  It is not meant to be a voice of a highly acclaimed poet trying to sway your political views.  When I put myself and little snippets of my life out there for all the world to see and judge some people will feel entitled to share their un-kind opinions.  I get that and have come to understand that's just what happens when you make yourself slightly vulnerable. My intention with my blog is that it is a happy (most of the time) place, lighthearted, encouraging and hopefully a little refreshing.

So to everyone reading this... Don't ever think you need to change the way you look, change the way you write or change the way you are because someone tells you they think you should.  If you feel like twerkin, do it.  Remember you are YOU and you are awesome.  I hope you all have a wonderful day and don't let sucky people ruin it.

And to quote a really deep poet ;) : " Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Amen! I love your blog because it is funny, honest, and most importantly REAL. And I especially love bloggers who aren't afraid to use the word "suck". Keep up the good work momma!!

Yikes! What an awful thing to say. I like reading your posts because you write so honestly, I feel like you are chatting and sharing some thoughts/ideas, not trying to be something you aren't and not trying too hard to impress people. Keep it up!

YES!!! The nerve of some people is UNREAL! I love your blog, its honest and real and interesting! Love seeing the boys and the recipes..Its great! Thank you!

Really? From another blogger? She sucks. Seriously.

Yuck... unfortunately there are people out there that clearly live miserable lives if they are taking the time to write that. Keep being YOU Lindsay! That's what we all love : )

That's ridiculous! A blog is supposed to be personal and reflect the person behind the blog..screw that person! PS I love your blog!

I love this and I love reading your blog. Your posts are genuine and honest. I love reading about your recipes, DIY projects, kiddos, and your life. Please keep it coming :)

I love reading your blog! You're inspiring. I get that everyone has varying opinions but what I don't get is why they feel the need to be flat out mean because of them. If they don't enjoy your blog then my advice is to find one they do enjoy instead. Duh?

The was you live life with T1D is completely inspiring to me. Keep on keepin' on, girl!

It's actually pretty pitiful that someone dedicated time out of their day to send a nasty note to the author of a blog that she reads voluntarily. Sounds like pure and simple insecurity to me. You must be doing something right if you've developed a few haters ( ;

Candice said...

I love your blog....The fact that they are short and sweet and are written in a way that speaks to me (like a normal person) is what has kept me coming back for almost a year now.....I also follow no other blogs...because their are not other blogs out there that help me like yours do....How many places can you read a recipe to make dinner, clear up your skin, and about someone else who is having a crazy mom day. Please don't ever change your blog! We love you just how you are!

Taylor said...

I agree! Screw em :) You seem to be a wonderful person, with a fun, educational, and light-hearted blog, that I really enjoy reading! Keep doing what you are doing!!

I am glad you are still blogging despite rudeness! I keep coming back-love when you have new posts to catch up on. Thanks for all you do share. You obviously have lots of readers who LOVE your blog. :)

Anonymous said...

Wow! Who does she think she is? Please don't change anything, because this blog attracts tons of people with its honesty, positivity and yes, freshness. Lindsay, you aspire to do everything as best as you can and seeing you put so much effort in your daily life is truly inspiring.

I really hope this other blogger stops reading it, she will do all of us a big favor.

Amen, Sistah! I don't get that kind of email, comment, etc: if you don't like what you're reading on someone's blog, stop visiting. Don't blame someone else for your unhappiness. Easy-peasy. = )

Good grief, what a piece of work. I hope she reads all the comments and to her, I say, "you SUCK!".

AMEN! If you don't like it...here is a hint...don't read it. I have a very small blog, why, I like it that way. I post when I want, what I want, and the few I have become friends with truly like ME, not some facade! There are millions of blogs, no two alike...we like it that way!! I personally would rather someone be authentic than put on a show for everyone. In the end those are usually the ones who fall flat on their face. There is only one with the power to judge.

I come here for your amazing Paleo recipes and I appreciate the time that you take to make them available to us all.

you'd think someone held a gun to their head and made them read your blog that's ridiculous!

I totally agree with you and I wish you to keep saying what you like, hate or think...
I'm a new reader of your blog and I do like it very much. As you can read, I'm not a native English speaker, so forgive my mistakes. Have a nice week! ^ ; ^

I can't believe she went out of her way to say that to you! You just keep doing what you do and know you have lots of readers who are grateful for your positivity, creativity, and unique voice! You have a loyal fan base who loves what you do so never forget that.

That blogger sucks! I read your blog and try your recipes because you are real! Keep doin what you're doin!

Lauren said...

seriously?!? who in the world thinks they have the right to be so rude about something as personal as a blog! It's your space girl, so keep on saying "sucks" all you want!

Alicyn said...

I read your blog and love it! I recently started following a couple of months ago and have kept reading! You're right, you can't please everyone. But as you can see by these comments, you have a whole lot of people who do love your blog! As hard as it can be to sometimes ignore criticism, you should in this case!

Anonymous said...

Sad, disrespectful, discourteous and wrong. And at exactly what point is your world supposed to stop spinning solely because SHE decides not to read your site? I believe the term "hater" would apply. LOL! I enjoy your recipes and have bought an industrial-sized bag of baking soda based on your skincare tips. I have also referred many of my friends to your site to dig for information. I, as only one of many, appreciate you and look forward to your next item.

Lauren said...

I don't even get to get on and read most of the blogs I love any more... But I keep up with my favs on IG and that's sort of like blogging right? You are a great mother, full of wonderful ideas, and you have such a beautiful heart. I happen to like your writing, but really I follow blogs for the person behind them so write on - in any way you so choose. I don't get why people feel the need to subject you to their opinion. If you don't like it then... Just don't read. It seems simple enough to me!

Marti said...

I would say that is a comment from a jealous blogger and just blow it off. Just the fact that you consistently have a lot of comments speaks for the interesting content of your blog.

I don't think I've received any unkind comments like that. Lots of spam, and once I looked on sitemeter and saw that several people had visited my blog from another blog, so I followed the link and found where someone had named my blog as one of the 10 most boring in blogland because I posted the progression of plants growing in my garden. lol

I like your Fruit Loop comparison. Brightly colored, cheerful, and sweet in a bowl of conformists.

Jane said...

Every time I read something like this from a blogger I am astounded. First of all, how can people be so hateful and rude. And most of all, If you don't like someone's blog, well no one is making you read it. So don't read it. I think that the people who do this are mentally ill, truly. I happen to adore your blog. Sorry that you have to read such vitriol.
People that respond in this manner don't even deserve a thought.

Alexis @ Hummusapien said...

Amen!! LOVE this post. Don't ever change who you are because of some one's rude, ignorant comments. I can't even begin to imagine how frustrating that was for you. Your writing and recipes are phenomenal--don't doubt that for a second, lady!

Lauren0109 said...

So rude! Even worse that this person was also a blogger, you'd think she'd be more supportive since I'm assuming she puts her life out there also for others to see and (unfortunately) judge. I love your posts and look forward to them.... keep on being you, cause you're pretty awesome! xo

I'm a little confused on what was in it for her to take time out of her life to sit down and write that to you? I mean I just don't read blogs that I'm not attracted to. Seems like simple reasoning, right? I think your awesome. People like her SUCK!!!

Mindy said...

WTF?! What the hell is wrong with people? Seriously. What kind of person goes out of their way to send a nasty email berating someone's personality, writing style, content, looks, etc? I just don't get it. Whatever happened to, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all."? Clearly she has her own issues if she doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut. It would be interesting to know if she speaks to people like that in real life when she isn't hiding behind a keyboard. I would imagine she's had a lot of chunky spit-wads delivered in her burgers, if that's the case. Screw her. Clearly you have hundreds of people who pop in everyday and like your voice. It "sucks" and hurts when someone is mean, but at least the good outweighs the bad. Again, screw her and her mean ass. lol Go eat a mug cake. :)

Lindsay YOU ARE AWESOME GIRL!!! need I say more. The not so nice blogger seem to me as a frustrated writer who has mistaken a blog for a book editorial. She might not have liked your fresh approach to everything and your awesome celebrity like presence. oh what can we say...Lindsay shame on you for being awesome you better tame your awesomeness....on side note never ever change please....lots of love

People baffle me! With so many blogs out there, if they don't like your writing, stop reading your blog and find one you do like! Why is an email criticizing you necessary??? I'm glad you didn't take it too personally and are going to continue writing your funny honest posts :-)

Alexa said...

Oh man Lindsay, someone actually wrote those things to you??? How ridiculous. I don't get people sometimes, why go out of your way to write those things...it's just mean. Obviously, as you noted, it is essential that you NOT change who you are. That's why I love your blog so much. I can see the real you coming through on every post! Hugs, friend!

Laura said...

Lindsay--I found your blog off of Pinterest a few months ago and since then I read all the time. I come into work in the morning and look at a few, but yours is always top on my list. I love the way you write -- don't let one person who sucks get in the way.

"'A tiger doesn't lose sleep over the opinion of sheep" --one of my favorite quotes. Don't let anyone bring you down!

I agree with you. That person must be insanely jealous and miserable. I love following your blog, it is perfect the way that it is, and you seem to be a kind, happy person. So thank you for that! I always look forward to your posts :-)

I came across your blog after my husband was suddenly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I was grateful for your recipe ideas and other post. It's nice to see a blog where a real life is being lived not an act that is put on for readers. Thank you for being someone I can relate to.

I have been feeling down about my blog lately and just feeling like it doesn't fit in the "approved" mold of what a blog should be. That I am not like the others and how I do not fit in and how I never will. I have been feeling really discontent with it and I needed this. So, thank you so much!

Anonymous said...

love your blog..the only way to avoid criticism is to say nothing, do nothing , be nothing- Aristotle. I know you said you are burnt out on furniture refinishing..but hopefully you will do your dining room table and post a pic!

People who comment nasty things, or say that they don't like what you're blogging about should just stop reading. Nothing is making them read it. If you don't like it, unfollow. Simple.

The wonderful thing about your blog is you - your voice and personality shine through. It is genuine, playful, honest, spirited and inspiring. The kind of friend you want in your inner circles. I'm delighted I discovered your blog last night. You have great tips, recipes and ideas worth sharing. I've already made a few friends & family happy this morning by sharing some of your recipes. I recently came across your site this evening, after a stop at the natural foods store (picked up some matcha, coconut oil, cocoa powder), and just wanted to say how inspiring and fun your blog is. I absolutely love it — the recipes, the beauty tips, the photography — and this post totally made my night! Going to go make myself a spirulina mask now and relax :) Thanks for being YOU!

Unknown said...

I stumbled across your site looking for yummy paleo type recipes. I have been perusing (your favorite word) your whole site for days reading and re-reading several of your posts. I've even shared your site to several of my friends, and pinned many of your recipes to Pinterest (hope you don't mind).

As for that lady who so rudely sent you that email. It sounds to me like she is possible jealous. Maybe more people are turning away from her blogs and reading yours. I like your personal comments and anecdotes. And if you use the word "suck" whenever you want, so what?! You are not a paid professional doing this as a job, you are enlightening people's worlds, and I am thankful for all the information you have so graciously shared. Thank you!!

I know this was written a year ago, but just noticed this post by accident when I was reading your lovely posts about your grandparents... Anyway! Firstly, I am so sorry that you had to read those negative things!!! Secondly! Oh my goodness! It is because you are different and lovely and fun and so yourself that I enjoy reading your blog!! And lastly, thank you for your encouraging words - so important to be reminded of being true to you. The world needs who we are, not our being copy cats! *** PS And I am originally from So. Cal., so it is so also fun to see sunny skies and sights in your pics from my former state! :)
