Becoming a Mom of Two + A Little Family Video

Friday, March 23, 2012

This week officially marks the final home stretch of my pregnancy. I am now 7 months along. I will be a mom of two before I know it! I am excited, terrified, anxious and overjoyed all wrapped up in one.

Lately I have been wondering how in the world I am going to do it. I already feel like I get nothing done with one. I know I need to get myself organized for starters. I am that Mom who forgets a change of clothes and my kid ends up having a blow out. Yes this has happened at awesome places like a baseball game that was two hours away from home.

Since this is going to be our last baby, I want to really soak up these next couple of months. I want to try and enjoy being pregnant (I am not one of those ladies who "loooooves" being pregnant). I want to spend more time outside with Max and less time on the computer. I want to spend more time reading Max stories and less time reading e-mails. I want to really cherish these special moments where it's just the two of us. So much is changing for Max and I want him to feel like he's still my little baby for just a little bit longer.

I recently found this little video and I thought it was too cute not to share. Max was about 6 months old here. He truly is our whole world and I am so happy to add a new member to our family very soon.

On a side note: I usually don't say "cold" like that. You start talking weird when you become a parent ;)

Mom's of two or more...do you have any advice on making the transition from one to two a little bit easier?

My only advice is don't expect too much out of yourself. When I had my third I noticed I was stressed because our home was always messy and I found myself yelling too much. I sat down with myself and said 'self, you can either be unhappy with a clean house or have happy kids with a messy house', I chose the messy route and am so glad I did. Luckily living in Southern CA the weather is nice year round and I didn't stay home a lot, the park, library and pool were my home.

I didn't start blogging until last year when my son started Kindergarten, I know for me I couldn't have made it work.

The biggest cliche ever but I'll join the club and say they really do grow up fast. I am still trying to figure out how my first baby girl is 11.

Such a sweet video! Being a mom of two, now 18 and 22 (how DID that happen), my best advice is to take the time to spend with them, talk with them, be there, be PRESENT. While it was hard to let things slide when they were younger (I tend to be a very organized neat freak), I am glad I did. My girls don't remember the state of our house, just how they felt while in it. I will send my baby off to college in the fall, and the house will become quiet, there will be less laundry, no more packing lunches, wiping the latest tears because someone said something hurtful. But, I feel really good about it. I can look back and know I spent A LOT of quality time with her, and she is who she is because of it. I am very proud of both my girls.
Something I always tried to ask myself when I'd get stressed over something (like the messes) is, "will this matter to me in the future?"

Such a sweet video!! It's okay about saying "cold" I pronounce a lot of things different now that I'm a parent too haha! Like for example, instead of asking Casey if he's "thirsty" I say "shirsty". Love it and enjoy the final stretch of your pregnancy!

Great video! Max is adorable!! :) I'm only a mom to one right now but I understand your concerns and worries. Things have a way of working out though, and I'm sure you'll do just fine! :).

I'm not a "I love being pregnant" person either and I'm trying SO hard to enjoy this pregnancy... I have no idea if it's my last one or not. I am open to having another so I've tried not to think about the fact that this might be it for me because even though I sort of hate being pregnant, I love little babies, and I think I would just be a wreck thinking "This is the last time I'll ___ and ___. And omg the last time that I'll ___." I totally understand for non-basket cases though the good in thinking "Wow I better cherish this last pregnancy".

We forgot to bring an extra outfit one day and my daughter had a blowout at the car dealership. We were stuck there for a few hours with her wearing only a diaper. I felt like absolute white trash... At least it was a warm day?! =\

I am a mother of 2 and was worried as well! One main piece of advise is make sure you have special time with the older one. I put the baby to bed and then me and my oldest read books and spend time together one on one before he goes to bed about 30 minutes later. We play memory, hide and seek, or read...just him and me. Also, family dinners are important.

Also, when the baby was new and he would do something wrong to her, I would reprimand my husband...not really reprimand but like this "Ryan (my husband) we have to be gentle with Hazel...she is a baby and is not big like Hagen yet..." So I don't direct to him that he is wrong...I just make sure he is listening to what is right and wrong from talking to Ryan.

I also let him help as much as possible. Yes sometimes the botttle feeding didn't go very well or clean, but you know what? Who cares...making him feel big is important.

I promise you that you will not be as uptight with your 2nd...I was SO uptight with Hagen and worried all the time! The 2nd time around you just kinda know what to do! Hang in there...

You have to learn to relax more with 2 kids. Not everything can get done in a day (or even a couple of days). I'd rather be making memories with my kids and having fun than worried that I need to dust the mantel. Enjoy it and have fun!

He is SO sweet! I can't wait for my little guy! You will be an awesome mom of two! I've heard the more you have, the easier it gets :) Don't really know why but I've heard it a ton! Your little family is SO cute!

I hope you can really enjoy these last months of time with Max without another little one! I'm sure you will do such a great job of transitioning to having two litle ones. Max will be such a good big brother!

You are going to be a great mother of two. You will see how easily you fall into that role. My biggest challenge was figuring out who to tend to first. And it's usually the one who is crying the hardest. :)

LOVE the video, by the way. You have the most adorable little family Linds!

Awww...Lindsay, enjoy! That video is adorable. I can't give you any advice, as I only have one, but you can bet that I'll be coming to you when we're getting ready for number two.

I am so in the same boat as you are. Crazy to think there will be 2 munchkins. I'm super excited though. You two are adorable in those pics. Ok, I'm getting off the computer to take my kid to the park since I don' know how much longer and I can physically do it lol.

adore this--could you guys be any cuter?? i think not. The transition is a little rough--but you will settle into a schedule and i think it is just important to still have that one on one time. Happy weekend!

How super sweet! That just made my heart melt! You will do just as good of a job with your next baby. My BFF was soooo worried about her second! She loved her first so much and was worried she wouldn't be able to love her second as much but it was as natural as can be. Not that you are worried about that but it will be the same way having to take care of both...you will be great!

You are both so sweet, what a great video :) You'll do great with #2. It's hard and Max will definitely have an adjustment time but soon they will be best friends. Caroline & Henry were just running around tonight & gave each other goodnight hugs - that's the part I love.

It's not so terrible! My best advice...I have a an organizer that hangs off the back of my seat in the car (by Case Logic or something...) There's two small pockets on top for little bitty sunglasses and two small toys to keep in the car. And a biiiig pocket on the bottom for the emergency pants, 10 spare diapers, and a giant pack of travel wipes. That way, you don't have to worry about being out for a long time!

I did not experience being pregnant but I am a nurse and I saw mothers who are in labor and who gives birth. I know you can make it. And 2 months are just around the corner. The next thing you knew, you're already holding your precious baby. That video of Max is so cute. =)

Hello Friend! I'm so excited for you. Don't worry, the second is so much easier, as you already know what to expect. The things that you (well, I did) freaked out over will seem so minute. You're a great mom. Can't wait to see the new little one. Sorry for the lack of comments lately... working on a big project and will have that announcement soon. No, it's not a baby ;)

Hi Lindsay,
So excited for you! I think my best piece of advice is this: Just remember that it's okay if they cry and need to wait their turn.... It's hard at first, but it will get easier.

Such a cutie. It is always exciting to bring a new little one into the mix. Makes me miss those days, now by baby is almost 16- yikes.

I have honestly not found 2 kids to be any harder than 1. Would it be possible if i said its easier? Given my kids are 2 years 11 months apart. I am just so much more calmer of a mom the second time around and therefore my second daughter is just SO good and laid back. I am not able to run to her the second she fusses like I did my first, and I think that made her a more content baby because she learned to self soothe. Breastfeeding is the only tricky part since it demands so much time. But I try and set my older daughter up with an activiy first or let her watch tv (which we dont normally do, but you gotta do what you gotta do!). I also wear my little one wherever we go so I still have 2 free hands! Good luck!

Park next to a cart return, find drive thurs for as many things as possible, freeze meals for after the baby arrives, get into a schedule early with naps and bed to give yourself mommy time too!

expect not to get out of your pyjamas, plan certain days for outings when hubby is home (like groceries!) and seriously, rest! you thought your energy was vital with one..just you wait! :) good luck!!

I remember feeling like this when my second was on the way. I almost felt guilty, but once the baby came, it all just became our new normal! You just never look back and it's an amazing feeling to see your family all together. You are going to be amazing - I just know it!

That video is so stinkin' sweet!

Two months ago I would have said two kids is a zillion times for than double the work of one. But now I think it completely depends on the baby. The Kid was the easiest baby in history. His sister(baby #2)was a high maintenance crier. So it was HARD. But now, with Laney, who has the temperament of her brother, it's definitely work, but nowhere near what it was with the second.

I quit my job a couple months before I had The Girl so that The Kid and I could have some Mommy-Son time before new baby arrived. I too was worried about him having to share my time. I honestly can't remember a single second of that "special" time together. Once the second one is born, you can't remember life without them.

I am a Mom to three, 8, 5, and 2. All I can say is batten down the hatches, hold on tight, and enjoy the ride. Your house is going to look as though a small tornadic event has come through, its okay, hug the messy house. Your life will never be the same. This will be in a good way and before you know it they will be heading off to school! Love your blog!
