Skin Care Tip Of The Week *give products time*

Monday, October 10, 2011

Are you constantly switching up your skincare routine because you feel like you are not getting results? How long do you use a product before you ditch it?

So many times I have heard clients say, "I have tried everything and nothing works!" I always ask how long they tried the products for and the answer is usually..." A couple of weeks".

The reality is you need to give products (especially those for skin lightening and acne) time.

Changing your skincare routine too frequently can not only make your skin irritated but it can also cause new problems because your skin is getting introduced to too many different ingredients.

Give new products at least 4-6 weeks before switching to something else. I know this seems like a long time when you want immediate results but it takes 4-6 weeks for your skin cells to turnover (exfoliate). At the end of this time period you will be able to get a much better idea if a product is working or not.

On a side unrelated note:
I am total dork and yesterday morning my stroller (baby was not inside) iPhone and car keys went flying into the duck pond. Long story...but I have learned through this big ole mess to back up your phone and DON'T keep every last important piece of information all in one place. Oh and USE those little brake stoppers on the stroller that is what they are there for DUH. Bummer. I am off to Verizon to see if I have phone insurance.

Oh dude. That blows about the stroller/phone. Though I couldn't help but giggle a little that it went into a duck pond. I mean is there a duck in there going "Can you hear me now?"

P.S. Thanks for the skincare tips!

Is it customary to change things up every once in a while? I've had mine for years. It seems to work like a dream for a while, but now it almost feels like my skin has adapted to it. I don't get that same wonderful feeling anymore.

Oh no! SO sorry about the phone. And so glad the baby wasn't inside! This is interesting information - I usually only give products a few days because I hate breaking out so much! I tend to turn towards completely natural one ingredient products since I have such bad luck. Your skin looks gorgeous, though, so maybe I should give it a try...

Tee Hee. Thank goodness the baby wasn't in the stroller. ;) ;) That totally sounds like something I would do. But, after all is said in done, it makes a fun story, right? "Hey, remember that time the stroller went for a dive in the duck pond?" ;) Memories are made of this. Hope you've got a new iphone by now. :)

This is a good tip to know about moisturizer and face products. Sorry about your phone....don't worry, most of do something similar and dorky. We just don't usually tell peoople .-))). And yes, we all need to back-up our phones and computers, but most of us probably don't, including me.

Good luck to you at Verizon!

Good to know! I usually don't give them that long, so I'll have to learn to be a little more patient. So sorry about your stroller debacle! haha I did have a funny picture in my head though :)

It's so hard to be patient with beauty products, especially when you know there's the risk taht you'll try something for 2 months, only to discover that it was a complete waste of time and money. So frustrating!

Eep! I am glad baby wasn't in the stroller. A sportswoman here (Australia) was walking her baby in the stroller in a park and stopped to answer her mobile, turned her back on the pram for a moment assuming she had put the brakes on and the stroller rolled into the creek. By the time they got it out it was too late :(
On a lighter night, great tip, I have a friend who is constantly swapping cosmetics and moisterisers and is a last minute shopper who buys her hair products and cosmetics according to whatever is on special when she has run out! So not a good habit! I have ridiculously sensitive dry oily breakouty evil skin, so when I find something that works I stick with it forever or until my skin one day turns around and decides it doesn't like it anymore, then I have to start the whole process again!

So happy I found your AWESOME Blog today!!
I'm desperately looking for a good Day/Night moisturizer since my fave has become very hard to find. I started using YouthCode Day/Night cream (excellent reviews) however I feel like my skin drinks it right up. So I started adding a little Josie Maran Argan oil at night (doing this for 3 days so far). My skin has been looking refreshed and even toned but I swear I feel like this cream/oil combination has been making my pores get bigger!! Is it an optical illusion, because my skin is so clear there is nothing else to notice but my pores??
Personally I feel that the YouthCode is drying my skin and I noticed that the second ingredient after water is Alcohol Denat. Could that be a culprit is if my eyes aren't playing tricks on me??
