Sushi Hand Rolls

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

Most of the things I cook are pretty simple. If you are looking for a five layer cake recipe you will not find that here. I am pro blender. If you can stick a few ingredients in the blender and make a soup I'm sold!

During out last trip to the grocery store..I stopped and chatted with the sushi chef. I asked him how to make a sushi hand roll and he showed me. THIS IS SIMPLE people. The only "hard" part was cooking the rice. I kind of screwed this up...but SHHHH Ian did not notice.

How do you mess up cooking rice? Who knows but I did. It was all crispy and stuck to the pan. Maybe I did not add enough water....Any whoo..

What you will need:
  • An assortment of fresh veggies
  • Nori seaweed paper
  • Brown rice
  • Cooked shrimp
I bought way too much shrimp you only need a small handful. You cut them up into tiny pieces to use in your hand rolls.

Place a small amount of moist cooked rice on the sushi paper. Arrange veggies and shrimp on top. Roll it up like a little burrito and Wallla!

Such a simple easy dinner.

Oh, they're so cute Lindsay and so good of you to use brown rice. I only use sushi rice but should try it with brown for so many reasons. A great summer lunch dish for us.

you always made it so fun and easy. I use the rice cooker to cook rice, just add water and "ting" it's ready, haha..but I guess you probably don't eat rice often enuff to get a cooker.

I have always wanted to try sushi making! This is awesome- it doesn't look that hard at all! Thanks for opening the door to an amazing and delicious adventure, hehe. :)

I think I might register for a rice cooker- mine always gets soggy and gross!

I always thought sushi was way hard and you needed one of those bamboo rollers to do it! Who knew? I love sushi but as a vegetarian, there are few places that cater to my exotic tastes. My favorite roll has macademia nuts, cream cheese, avocado and garlic in it. Now I don't have to wait til I'm in Santa Cruz to make it!

This look so good right now! I just recently took a liking to sushi, plus its so fun to make!

By the way...I have always had a hard time cooking rice until my grandma gave me a Martha Stewart cast iron pot for x-mas. It cooks rice perfectly, even better then my rice-cooker!
