Skin Care Tip of the Week *Makeup*

1-2-3-4-5-6

The type of makeup you use can make a huge difference in the overall health of your skin.

Before I decided to work for myself, I worked in a medical spa where I specialized in corrective skin treatments and face makeup consultations. Most of the time I worked with clients who experienced severe acne, rosacea and pigmentation problems. Using the correct face makeup played a huge role in the improvement of their skin.

Everyone can benefit from wearing makeup that will let your skin breath and will not clog your pores. Makeup should enhance and work to improve the health of your skin, not cause irritation.

What to look for when choosing makeup:
  • Makeup that is free of synthetic dyes
  • Makeup that is free of talcs (which can clog pores and irritate skin)
  • Makeup that is free of synthetic fragrances
  • Makeup that does not contain artificial binders (which are added to give makeup that extra silky smooth effect)
I listed some of my favorite face makeup products above, which I highly recommend.

If you are experiencing breakouts, clogged pores or your face just feels irritated...taking a look at the type of makeup you use can give you quite a bit of insight into why you may be experiencing these problems.

If you have any questions regarding this post you can leave them in the comment section and I will be happy to answer.

I love Bare Minerals! I'll have to try some of these other products out. Especially the tinted moisturizer...I can't seem to find a good one!

Such great advice! I love make-up but poor quality means poor pores (sorry I just couldn't resist)!

I've heard great things about bare minerals but got into such a routine with my Bobbi Brown!

I SO needed to read this. I have for the past few months been trying and failing to look in to different types of chemicals etc in my make up. I watched a program on the damaging effects make up can have on ur skin and when I went through that bad skin phase a few months ago (that you helped fix!) I got very concious about the make up I wear (I wear it daily for work). I have been wanting to invest in some great mineral make up, but when I said that to a gf she said that mineral make up can have nasty synthetics in them but couldnt offer any advice on ones I could get that are genuinly mineral. CAN YOU HELP ME? haha Or are you aware of the nasty stuff I need to avoid when looking for a good mineral make up? I love your weekly skin care advice Lindsay - I don't know where I'd be without it (well, still with terrible skin that's for sure)

I agree. I want my make as simple as possible. If there are organic make up I'll go for it. Chemicals may harm your skin.

Lindsay ...How do you feel about Orgins make up?

It's very important to choose your makeup well. Some makeup can cause allergies and other skin irritations which can make you look bad. Always choose natural and hypoallergenic ones to be on the safe side.
