DIY Colorblock Earrings

Thursday, November 10, 2011

This is such a fun and easy way to spruce up those old boring silver hoop earrings that you may laying around. Does anyone even wear silver hoop earrings anymore? I don't. This little project was inspired by these bracelets that I made a while back.

What you will need:
  • 2 different colors of embroidery thread
  • Hoop earrings
  • Krazy Glue (not shown)
  • Scissors (not shown)
Cut two long pieces of embroidery thread. Tie a tight knot around the end. Choose a color that you would like to start with (orange) and begin tightly wrapping it around the earring, while keeping the second thread (purple) tucked behind.

When you are ready to add the second color (purple), simply tuck the orange thread behind and begin wrapping the purple.

When you reach the end tie a tight knot and cut off the remaining thread.

Add a drop of Krazy Glue to each end to keep the thread from coming loose.

I never know what to say at the end of the finished product other than...TADA!

On a side note: I just found out that a Hobby Lobby opened up literally down the street from me. I am so excited about this you have no idea. I wonder if they carry polymer clay...hmm!

Such a good idea for old boring earrings! I have both a Michael's and Hobby Lobby here, and I think Hobby Lobby is just insane! It's always super crowded and the checkout area is always congested and people even drive crazy in the parking lot haha but maybe that's just this one location!

Hobby Lobby carries EVERYTHING. Literally my favorite shop in the world. I have spent so many hours in there.

Also - I've been itching to wrap floss around hoops for awhile but I don't have any old ones and I haven't found any hoop-like items that would work. I'll keep my eye out...Yours are super cute!

Lovely! I really like the fall shades. Embroidery thread is one of my favorite go-to's for adding color.

I was wasting time on Pinterest.com and came across a blog entry that may interest you. It is a tutorial on how to make your own Polymer Clay. Not sure if it works but I guess it is worth a try. http://thenewnew.blogspot.com/2011/06/homemade-polymer-clay.html

Hi! Your blog popped up when I was googling diy leather bracelets and I ended up browsing all of your craft posts. You are so creative! I've made several bangle bracelets following your instructions. I blogged a pic and linked to your blog here: http://squintyeyeddog.blogspot.com/2012/03/five-fast-findings_30.html

And Lindsey is a great name, isn't it?

thanks for your post.. I have a pair of earrings just crying out for this :-)
I am also a poly clay addict (PCA) ...
I have a lot of other crafts to make a sale, so I have to force myself to do the PC LAST , or the entire day will be spent making pendents :-)

Thanks again.

I love this! I got a lovely pair of hoop earrings from Long Island gold buyers, but it's a bit tarnished now. These would certainly dress them up nicely.
